School Profile

DEMOGRAPHICS:

NIS serves a population that evenly split between Caucasian and Hispanic, at about 45% each, with other ethnicities making up no more than 0.3 - 3% each.  The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged average has fluctuated between 45-55% in the last few years, and we typically have 35-45 English Learner students in our total number of 725.

TEST SCORES:
In 2016, NIS qualified for the CA Golden Ribbon Award based on test scores and closing the achievement gap.  We won the award and proudly display the Golden Ribbon Logo on the building as you drive in!  Way to go Bobcats!  Due to COVID campus closures, SBAC testing was suspended until 2022, and test scores for Spring 2022 showed an approximate 20+% dip, as most schools across our nation struggled post-COVID.  We are on the rise again and look forward to our 2023 testing.

PROGRAMS:
We have stellar programs in music and STEM classes, such as Environmental Science, Robotics, Computers and Advanced Computers.  We also have electives for Visual Arts and Careers, as well as intervention programs for students struggling in Math and Language Arts.  After school tutoring is available by request through your child's teacher.

ACTIVITIES:
NIS participates with other CNUSD intermediate schools in intramural sports for Basketball (Fall), Track (Winter) and Soccer (Spring).  Your child's PE teacher has the most current information.  We also have ASB and Yearbook clubs, our PAWPAC group that focuses on kindness activities and campaigns, National Jr. Honor Society, School Advisory groups, Counseling group sessions, and after school clubs such as chess, Green Team, Garden to Table, to name a few over the years.
