Elective Overview - 7th Grade
Our 7th Grade Bobcats take our Success for School elective, which is a year-long elective in the style of "homeroom." This is a course where teachers are able to cover specific skills for studying, give extra time for collaborative work, and check planners for accuracy, organization, and completed work for success. This is also a class where students will be able to complete some research projects for college and career, create oral presentations, receive counseling presentations, and learn about our community BobCATS expectations. Because our students are organized into teams of teachers, our struggling students can often get their first level of support from their Success teacher, who easily communicates with the other academic teachers on our Wednesday early release days.
Bobcats that choose a year-long music elective have the option of Choir or Band (beginning Band or intermediate Band). Both electives will have required performances on 1,2 or 3 evenings during the school year. If your student has never tried to play an instrument, beginning band will get them going and give them a chance to explore! If your child took band in 5th and/or 6th grade, or takes lessons, Intermediate Band is the place to be. There are no pre-requisites for choir. Both courses also have required uniforms for performance.
Students who want to experience a new elective each semester are encouraged to prioritize their choices on a survey in the spring. Semester elective choices include Computers, Visual Art, Technology, Robotics (STEM).
