Who comes here?
Our primary feeder schools include Highland Elementary, Sierra Vista Elementary, Norco Elementary, and Riverview Elementary. We also accept anyone who is ready to sport Norco Blue and fills out a CNUSD Transfer Request by the January deadline PRIOR to the school year for which they want to begin at NIS.  CLICK HERE for the CNUSD School Locator to check your home schools according to your address.

What high school do we feed into?

Our Bobcats in the attendance area attend Norco High School, which is located only 1/2-mile south on Temescal Avenue (unless a school choice transfer is completed by January of the 8th grade year, and approved for attendance to another high school.)  Remember, any person living in CNUSD district attendance areas who is moving between 6th-7th or 8th-9th, you must fill out another transfer.  Any student OUTSIDE the CNUSD boundaries, must make a transfer request annually.  CLICK HERE FOR TRANSFER INFORMATION.

What is there to do here?

In addition to regular lunch-time activities and spirit days, we also have many clubs, events, and activities for you to be involved! Listen to morning announcements, get your parents to "like" us on Facebook and Instagram, and be sure that your family receives our emails and texts through School Messenger to get the most information in the fasted way!  ASB, Yearbook, Band, Choir, Green Team, PAW PAC (paw-sitivity), and Intramural sports (basketball, track, soccer) are some of the available extra-curriculars! We also can have Student-Led clubs with a teacher sponsor, so be creative if you want develop your own club of interest!

How big is the school?

Our school currently has a little more than 720 students attending, which is one of the smaller intermediate/middle schools in the district.  We have 34 highly qualified and enthusiastic teachers.

Three-Way Pledge

There is an adage saying that says "it takes a village to raise a child." We believe that a student's success is based on the cooperation of all three parties - the students, the parents, and the school.  We want you to be part of our Bobcat Family, and we welcome your involvement in PTSA, English Learner Advisory Council, and our School Site Council.  Information about these parent involvement opportunities comes home by September of each school year.

How do I choose classes to take?
Each spring, our administration will communicate the courses available, and the opening date for requesting courses through the Q Student Portal.  For the 2023-24 school year, this will happen in late April. Courses are NOT selected on a first come first-serve basis, but rather we make more space available per the requests.  This is one more reason to finish requests on time, by the due date, which is typically mid-May.  Mathematics course will be chosen by diagnostic testing done in 6th and 7th grade (Fastbridge Screener,  CA State tests) and the proper course will be chosen based on data.  Honors courses are available for all who want to increase their rigorous coursework, and electives include computers, technology (intro to robotics and industry), art, band, choir, AVID, Success for School (homeroom-like support class) and even more yearlong courses for our 8th graders specifically.
